How PZ×RC started, more or less

A few mates swapped the occasional boozy night for an early-morning run. More people joined, the distances got longer and things got slightly out of hand.

There was no founding meeting or grand plan. PZ×RC started with a group of mates around Penzance who enjoyed running together, especially when it involved the coast path.

Gradually, the group grew. Friends brought friends, new friendships formed and running became a regular reason to get together. The pub was never abandoned entirely; it just gained some competition.

From casual runs to questionable decisions

Some of the group have completed 100-mile races. Others take things at a more sensible pace. Most have entered an ultra, got carried away during training and then spent more time discussing injuries than actually racing.

There are no membership forms, subscriptions or fixed club nights. It is simply a group of friends who live in the same area and share a love of running, getting outdoors and occasionally taking on something far more ambitious than originally planned.

From PZ×RC to Hit the Coast

PZ×RC is what inspired Hit the Coast. It showed me how running can build a community, create new friendships and give people a reason to explore more of the coastline around them.

This site is an attempt to share that feeling and help more people discover the coast path, one stretch at a time.

The ultra I didn’t run

The Classic Quarter was going to be my first ultra. Six weeks out, my back went. Four months later I am starting again from close to nothing, and building this thing in the meantime.
